Burlington, WI: Fox River - Aquatic Invasive Species Monitoring

  • September 21, 2024
  • 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  • WEHMHOFF JUCKER PARK 408 E Washington Street, Burlington, WI 53105

Registration

Description:

Paddle or wade the Fabulous Fox with Wisconsin Sea Grant as we survey for invasive species.

What to expect:

Meet near the park shelter on the corner of E Washington St and N Main St at 9 am. Following a training on how to identify aquatic plants and invertebrates and how to follow search protocols, volunteers will look for invasive species along the Fox River by foot along the riverbank or by boat (see below for more information). Potential invasive species will be verified and cataloged to guide species control and conservation management plans. This is a free event and recommended for ages 8 and up; minors must be accompanied by an adult.

We will be following the Wisconsin Project RED (Riverine Early Detection) program. For more information including a digital guidebook visithttps://wateractionvolunteers.org/projectred/.

What to bring:

Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet (we will be working along the riverbank), and dress for the weather. No special equipment necessary. If possible, but not necessary, we recommend bringing a smartphone with a camera or a camera, as well as polarized sunglasses. All other monitoring tools provided.

Optional to bring a canoe, kayak, or personal watercraft with a lifejacket. Personal watercrafts will not be provided.
